Motivation:
This project was developed during a time when immigration policies continue to divide immigrant communities. It draws inspiration from the historical context of Japanese internment camps, where they were often portrayed those being displaced in an idealized, ‘white picket fence’ family light as a way to humanize them for the broader public. Building on this idea, the project reimagines how stories can be told through an interactive archive that allows individuals to share their own histories and experiences of displacement. Alongside these personal narratives, AI-generated visuals are produced to create a collective memory that captures both individual and shared struggles. These stories and images are then mapped onto an interactive platform, allowing users to explore the layered experiences of immigrant communities across time and space.
this is a wip.
System:
This system works by allowing a user to input a report of their experience. This experience is then prompted to an AI image generator, which then produces an image. That image becomes part of a post, and the post itself is mapped to a location. Together, this creates a flow where user input drives image creation, the output is tied to user-generated content, and the content is geographically anchored for contextual relevance.
